High School Community Service Projects

At St. Joseph Catholic Academy we embrace our Catholic faith by modeling the teachings of Jesus through example and service.  We are called to give of our time, talent and treasure.  The students gain so much from all of these very personal giving experiences.

Shalom Center Item-of-the-Week
Each week, the students bring in one target item based on their grade.  This is called the Shalom Item-of-the-Week. On Wednesdays, the Senior Christian Life and Service class collect the items and deliver them directly to the Shalom Center, which is the one of the main food distribution centers for Kenosha County. Through this unique relationship, SJCA has teamed up with the Shalom Center to offer continued help and support in feeding and clothing Kenosha.

Walkin' In My Shoes
During the winter of 2010/2011, SJCA teamed up with St Anthony's and Walkin' In My Shoes, Inc., to run the "Warming Up Hearts" coat give-away. The students here brought in new or gentle used coats to be given out to the poor and homeless. We look to keep this going next winter, and every winter, until everyone has a coat.

Hundreds of coats, sweatshirts, and pairs of jeans were collected at the SJCA Middle and Upper School students and distributed to homeless teens and their families at the St. Anthony Parish gym on January 15 and 22. Nearly two dozen SJCA students volunteered their time to sort the items and assist the needy families with their selections.  The coat drive made a huge impact in the community and gave our students an opportunity to outwardly express their Lancer Values.

School Sister's Pancake Breakfast
Each fall, the School Sisters of St Francis host a Pancake Breakfast/Fall Festival. SJCA, being formed many years ago from the School Sisters, are the primary volunteers for this annual event. The students enjoy working the event, and it brings new awareness of
Milwaukee to the students, and spreads the Catholic service spirit from Kenosha to Milwaukee.
