Welcome to our Community Service Projects...
We are here to Serve! “...for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to provide you with every
blessing in abundance, so that you may always have enough of everything
and may provide in abundance for every good work.”
2 Corinthians 9:7-8
PB & J Challenge
SJCA Lower Campus, under the initiative of Student Council, joins in the PB & J Challenge. This is an opportunity to engage and educate our students as they help other kids by Feeding America, in South Eastern Wisconsin. Students, families and relatives donate peanut butter and jelly by a particular date. All items are then weighed and an average per student is calculated. We have been the winning school in the Elementary level 2 years in a row!! The Milwaukee Bucks then thank each student who is up to the Challenge with a free ticket to a home basketball game and a PB&J t-shirt. In 2010, we collected 1525 lbs of PB&J. That‘s enough to make 24, 400 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
Advent Mitten Tree
This Mitten Tree is sponsored by our K-5 Student Council. We collect items for needy people of the Kenosha community, such as: Brand new, still usable, or homemade mittens, scarves, hats, or gloves. Also underwear, socks, and towels.
Pajama Drive
Scholastic Book Clubs and the nonprofit Pajama Program have joined forces to bring us The Great Bedtime Pajama Drive. The mission is to provide 25,000 children in need new pajamas & books. For every pajama donated, Scholastic will donate a book.
Thanksgiving Food Baskets
We participate in the Human Concerns Committee of St. Mark Parish's annual food drive. It benefits all families who are in need from the parish. Each week through November, one specific item is collected. Over 40 families were helped in 2010.
Pasta for Pennies - Leukemia Awareness
We participate in Olive Garden‟s Pasta for Pennies program benefiting The Leukemia & lymphoma Society (LLS).
Students collect spare change to support the LLS mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma & Hodgkin‟s disease & to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
Heavenly Hats
K-5 Student Council run bakesale that raises money to send to this organization who provides hats for cancer patients.
Veteren's Day Celebration
SJCA Lower Campus staff and students have a special program and mass honoring Veterans.
Book Drive
Slightly used books, paperback or hardback were collected by our students to be used in all grade levels of a selected school servicing poorer students. K-5 students brought their cherished books to school. Student Councilors packed these books, and with the assistance of parent drivers, delivered these books to the elementary school. Books and treats were shared with these young students in their classrooms for a most memorable experience for all.
Jump Rope for Heart
Every February, National Heart Awareness Month, time is set aside for our students to jump rope and earn money from sponsors. That money is then donated to the American Heart Association. The physical education teacher acts as the advisor for this activity.
Children Helping Children
Our Lenten Project always reflects on children at the International level. Focus on students in Honduras, Costa Rica, and Peru have been our focus. This year, we look to the students at St. Francis School serving poor students and especially those experiencing special learning needs in Bengalore, India. Helping these children build hope in a future in their part of the world is our mission focus. Our campaign has set a goal, and with various projects, hope to reach this goal and possibly surpass it. "I see the light in you" is our greeting to these children, and theirs to us at SJCA.
